Christopher Bought a Dog...or two?

Living alone has its ups and downs. I finally decided I wanted at least something to greet me when I get home for the day. My neighbor owned a french bulldog that I thought was a great dog. So I got one!

Then I felt bad that my one puppy was all alone with nobody to play with. So now I have another.

Meet Gaston (get it? french bulldog, he's the frenchman in Beauty and the Beast) and Chancho (she looks like a pig, and that's pig in spanish).

On Fire!

This is my turkey about 11 minutes after I put it in the oven, well after I put it in the Turkey Cooker. Yes, the bag WAS on FIRE! I had to get a squirt bottle and put out the burning bag.
Nana gave me a cooker:

She used it. It worked great, but she didn't want to use it again, so she gave it to me. I was happy to have it. I only have one oven and on Thanksgiving, an additional "oven" can be a life safer. A couple of months ago I cooked a turkey breast in the cooker just to test it, make sure it worked well. It did. All was delicious.
So, this morning I prepared my turkey as usual. I buttered my brown bag, I put my turkey in the bag, stapled it up and put it in the cooker. 5 minutes later I notice a burning smell. Hmm. 4 more minutes and I see smoke. This can't be good. I called Nana to ask if she had the problem, but she was NOT home! I spoke with Bumpa and he thought that maybe the bag was too close to the cooking element, so the bag was not going to work with the turkey. He suggested I take the turkey out of the cooker and just use my oven.
I opened the lid and saw a small fire burning on the corners of the bag!!

Ok, take #2.
I prepared another bag, heated up my real oven.

And I put my turkey in the real oven.

When at first you don't succeed, try try again...

Meat is NOT Kylie's favorite thing. She is not a vegetarian, but we like to tease her like she is. So, I decided to try and find a LASAGNA recipe that was vegetarian, and I did! We had it Monday night. It was good. Kerry said it was GREAT! (Kylie is at soccer and she has not eaten it yet; her review to come later.)

Give it a try!

Tell me how you like it!

Vegetarian Lasagna

Ingredients
1 1/2 quarts spaghetti sauce ( your favorite homemade or jar spaghetti sauce) **jpc note: one jar is plenty!
1/2 cup grated carrots
1/2 teaspoon oregano
6 cooked lasagna noodles
1 (16 ounce) containers ricotta cheese
1 (16 ounce) packages frozen chopped spinach, thawed and well drained
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups thinly sliced zucchini
1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
3 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions
1. Mix carrots, oregano, and spaghetti sauce together.
2. Mix Ricotta, spinach, and eggs together in separate bowl.
3. Spread ½ cup spaghetti sauce in bottom of 9 x 13 inch baking dish.
4. Layer 3 lasagna noodles, ½ remaining sauce, ½ Ricotta mixture, ½ sliced zucchini, ½ sliced mushrooms, ½ Mozzarella, and ½ Parmesan.
5. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
6. Bake in 350 degrees oven for about 45 minutes.

Hello Family! I realize that I haven't visited the blog much in recent months, so I just spent a good long time going back and looking through months and months of all your fun posts!

I'm sure that everyone is getting ready for and is super excited for the big family vacation. My little family is sad that we won't be going with you, but we really hope that everyone has a wonderful time. Make lots of memories! Perhaps someday, Mike's Army career will be in a place where we are able to commit to joining on a family vacation without worrying that an Army duty will conflict with the timeline.

Since everyone is about to head off on a big fun adventure, I thought that I would share our family's summer vacation time with you. So that you all think of us while you are playing in the Mexican sun! ;)

Last month, we went to the beach! Hayden had so much fun playing in the sand that he threw a little temper tantrum when it was time to leave. He did not want to go home! Here are a few pictures...

Last month, my stepson Ryan turned five years old! We love talking to him on Skype. Hayden tries to kiss him on the computer screen every time.

We also went on a short visit to Georgia so that Hayden's grandparents could meet him and spend a little time with him. While we were there, we made a trip to the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta - which is the world's largest aquarium! Hayden was absolutely fascinated. Here are a few more pictures...

While we were visiting Mike's parents and some of his family, I was reminded of where he comes from. Mike is not ashamed of how he grew up, he didn't have any control over it. But, I now understand why he joined the Army at 17 years old. He always knew that as soon as he could, he would leave Jackson, GA and never look back. This is the house he grew up in...

Now, imagine no plumbing. For many years, the family used a large bucket as a toilet. Mike and his brother had the chore of emptying it daily. Mike remembers getting a bath by standing in a large metal tub while his mother poured water over him from the wood burning stove. Some days Mike got to bathe first, and some days his brother got to go first. The other boy would have to clean up with his brother's leftover dirty water. His father installed plumbing near the end of the time Mike lived there.

The glass windows you see on the house weren't always there. Mike remembers the windows being made of simple plastic sheets that were taped to the window frames. The house had no furnace. It's only source of heat in the winter was the wood burning stove in the center room of the house. You could call it the living room, but many people slept in it over the years, including Mike, so it was more like a community space. Mike didn't have his own bed, he had to share. There was no real foundation, or insulation in the house. Mike says that you could look down through the wood planks of the floor and see right through to the dirt below. Bugs never bothered Mike. Why would they when you are more worried about the rats and snakes that are always trying to move in with you? I could go on and on. At one point Mike even lived in the barn behind the house. But, you get the idea.

The reason I tell you this story is because I am truly grateful for everything that my family has today. It's so easy to get caught up in who has the biggest house, the newest car, the coolest toys or the nicest clothes. I am so happy for what we can provide for both Hayden and Ryan today. I am so happy for all of you that you get to go on a family vacation, on a cruise! The next time you find yourself feeling envy or want for something bigger, better and newer, remember this and be happy for all that you have!

(On a side note - Mike's parent's moved into a trailer on the same property in 02 or 03 I believe. No, I did not take Hayden into the house above.)

Now, everyone have a fun, safe trip! Take lots of pictures! Next month, Hayden turns two and starts preschool. Mike is also going to airborne school soon. So, I should have more family photos to share much sooner, rather than later!

WHEN NANA IS ILL NOBODY FILLS IN!!!

Someone had a birthday last week while Nana was recovering from a very sick stomach.

Her MOM did not do her duty (step in if Nana is not gonna get it done!!) So the little birthday child is in this family picture. Find her if you can. She is sort of frowning but still cute.

Even though Nana was sick (UGH) Jenna climbed up in the bed to have Nana help teach her how to crochet. Sorry it never took. But Jenna was a love to care about her Nana so much.

In early spring some years back Julie drove her family with Tatia's three youngest, and myself to Thanksgiving Point. It had not officially opened. Julie let the Youngsters and one old youngster climb all over Noah's Ark which was really a NO,NO!! We all had great fun!!

Those were the days. Fun in the sun at Newport Beach. On this occasion Cmp, at 18 mos. was left at the beach.I had left her with the children (they were all playing together.) I walked back to our beach rental to start dinner. As each child came in, none brought Candice. They all hurried back and found her sitting all alone slapping at the beach. Angels were watching!!

We were so thrilled to have this baby! I don't know - might be two wks old.

Here she is at 10 yrs. She had just won the privilege of being "Annie" in the Broadway hit at Promised Valley Playhouse in SLC. We had pictures taken, but I don't think I was given any of her "Annie" pictures.

This is the hairstyle I gave her to be Annie. Then we dyed it a beautiful RED!!

When CMP turned 12 We took our two "remaining at home" children on "A real vacation".
Drove back to a big lake in Missouri where Dad had a convention. We stayed at the Holiday Inns, along the way. In this picture the three of us have just left the cave in Mark Twains book, "Huckleberry Finn", I think. Those are fun memories.

Candice and Gil are married. I can't remember the year - but - it was a good year for all.

Today is Matthew's 18th Birthday (July (I can't believe it)8, 2011.

I had to go through many folders to find pictures of him. Then I

had to recover him from other pictures where there were several people.

He is not one to get in the way of an active camera. But I think I captured

except he looks a little more wild in real life. He is still happy and has a charming smile.

Don is having a birthday today - his 49th!! He has a physique that looks like he is actually 22. He doesn't like to eat mashed potes, only veggies, chicken or beef or fish. Good going, Don. Keep up the good work.

Don is happy in the kitchen cleaning up the dishes after Sunday dinner.

Don is standing with his family at the beach. They all love to go to the beach. Don is a good father to play with his kids, to look after them, to teach them how to work as well as play, and to give them his example of integrity. We love you Don. Happy Birthday! A Visit to Uncle Quentin's Farm . . .

Candice came with three children. Husband came later. We swaddled Lola Bee and laid her in a basket. There she slept very well.

Bumpa loved holding her.

Nana held her while CMP did her run for forty minutes.

And Teo played in the dirt box. It worked almost as good as sand.

And swung on the swing.

Then we visited Uncle Quentin's farm. He brought the 1917 cletrac

out of the barn and let all of us take a ride!

Nana went first!

Next came Bumpa, and Candice, then Gilbert with Teo.

Teo sat on the horse and Bumpa held Lola.

Then we all went to see more horses.

Teo found Mother Hen with her baby chicks.

He followed them. . .

Candice held Baby while Teo gathered eggs from the nest.

Here is Quentin in his 81st year.(He is scheduled for a pacemaker in four days) Now, is done and Quentin is resting peacefully at home. Those of you who wish, might want to send him a sweet card.

Julie and Dawney took dancing lessons for one dollar each

every week. They were both adorable and very good!
They liked a little girl who lived down on the

corner of the cul de sac. This must be 1963.

We had moved to Dallas by this time. Julie is 5 yrs.

The best time 0f day was when Grandma Valate arrived

How Did You Spend Memorial Day?

The Juarez Family spent the day hiking up Stough Canyon in Burbank. It was a lovely, sunny day. Tanner spent the day with Billy, so unfortunately, he was not there. But I'm sure he had fun wherever he was. Here are some photos to enjoy.

My darling children who came to wish me "Happy Mother's Day"

The day before Mom's Day, I walked out in the yard barefooted and stepped onto a tiny thorn that shot into my heel. Very sore. Marsden came over to remove it. He brought his kit. Such an angel.

I found CMPJ and her DAD at the L.A.Temple, still carrying her precious cargo(Lola Bee).

Tim just graduated from U of U last Friday with his Masters!!! The last graduation we went to was Haley's graduation from High school. We realized we couldn't see another because they become so boring after our child has walked across the stage. And all the people who talk are just blah, blah, blah. But that doesn't mean we are not sooo proud of our children who do graduate and especially with their Masters. We have watched this darling little pudgy boy from the time he was born to his 27th year. He has never done anything to hurt or embarrass his family but has only made us feel proud. He has been strong in his beliefs, solid and firm, a well-spring of integrity. Bumpa and I are so very proud of him. He made us proud when he married Hope, whom, I think, has been such a great addition to his life. Kudos to you, Tim, for all your work, your enduring to the end, your endless nights of study and etc. I know you have still so much you want to do. As you and Hope travel along your own path may you be blessed with wisdom and a desire to help others along your way. May you spend yourselves in a worthy cause, and may you always be cheerful and faithful for this will give you courage, and cheerfulness and faithfulness are tools which the adversary cannot overcome. We love you, Nana and Bumpa

We had a wonderful day with Lola Bee on the day of her blessing. Here she is with her Nana. Amazingly, I found out that Gil's grandmother was called "Lola." So our little baby carries the name of both her Nana and her great grandmother.

The big day begins with a bath in the sink. Look at that belly!!!

This is what a 2 month, 12 lbs baby looks like. She has gained 5 1/2 pounds and grown 3 inches since her birth. She's going to surpass her brothers in no time.

All dressed up and ready to go. Tia ("Auntie" in spanish) Linda is holding Lola while she smiles at her Momma. This was my dress when I was blessed. Nana kept it all this time. Julie added some little pink bows and flowers to spruce it up. So adorable.

I have 3 kids now. I still can't believe it!

Try making 7 quilts. It will keep you very busy. And it also will give you something creative and pretty to work on. Here are the quilts I made in December and January.

This one is how it all began. This used to be a duvet cover that sat in my closet not being used. so I ripped off the back, added a thick batting, tied and bound it. It became a favorite of my family's to use on the couch so that led me to this next one . . .
This was Gil's quilt that I had professionally "quilted" and ended up hating because it was so thin (no warmth) and I felt the back was itchy. So I thought I would pick out all the stitching, add a flannel back, put a THICK betting, tie and bind. This one was the most labor intensive and COULD NOT have done it without the help of Tatia and Diana - both who like to pick! Mom was a great sounding board. She picked out the two new borders to make the quilt larger for Gilbert. Thanks Mom! I think it turned out great!
This quilt I made once I got home from Utah, after Christmas. It is a quilt for Connie (Gil's Mom) for coming to stay with us so often and help take of the baby. I think she will like it.
This is Tanner's quilt. He said he wanted something warm so I put double batting inside. I found this pattern online and decided to try it. Their block was all one color repeated throughout. I decided to do three different colored blocks: red, brown, and yellow. I'm happy to see Tanner using it.
I made this mini quilt for Teo for his toddler bed when he is ready to move out of his crib. I don't know where he will be sleeping - either with Tanner or Lola, so I decided to make his quilt match Tanner's in case they share the same room so they will have matching quilts. Teo likes me to wrap him in this quilt when going on cool stroller rides or sitting on the rocking chair watching a video before bed.
Finally, I decided I probably should make a quilt for the new baby . . . so I made this horizontal rag quilt. I really like how it turned out. The hardest part was deciding the order of the fabric. It took me one day to sew, one day to cut and wash. It is very soft and I love the colors.
Last, I made this patchwork quilt for Lola Bee with little bow ties for the ties. I tacked them on with the sewing machine. The hot pink makes me happy. Some of Mom's old fabric is in this quilt along with curtain fabric from Tatia's old Barn Rd. house in Sandy. I kept it all this time.
I feel so happy to have a Mom who taught me how to make quilts when I was 8 years old. She cut the fabric and I sewed them together. It is a great skill to know. Thanks, Mom. I love you!

I LOVE Tatia!
She is an amazing mother to her children (and her dogs too). She is very creative. She writes well and plays the piano at all the family gatherings for the last several years. She wrote her ward's Christmas program and it was beautiful. She also directs her choir and gets them to perform their best Her choir is one of the best ward choirs I've ever heard. She maintains a great figure, much better than mine and I think she could get credit for it. I think it's too assumed that women with good figures don't really have any weight problems. Tatia has made a conscious effort to watch what she eats and has dynamite looks for it.
She has also done a spectacular job at managing her depression. She smiles a lot and makes those around her comfortable and happy. Her kids think she's great, but the real compliment is that her kid's friends think she's the bomb!
I like to hang around her and tell people "Yup, she's my sister!"

I decided to share the Payne family's Christmas decorations! Howdy, all!
We decided to wrap ribbon around the tree this year as opposed to draping it down the sides. It was fun. Just so everyone knows, those of us in Utah, including Candice got together at Nana & Bumpa's for a little sing fest and visit Sunday night. I thought it was a great way to kick off Christmas week.
Nana, Bumpa, me, Diana and Katy went to Tatia's ward Christmas program - which she wrote and directed. She is amazing people! Amazing! It was so beautiful and she has a wonderfully talented choir... and I'm not just saying that.
Diana, Kate and I went to Nana & Bumpa's after church for brunch where Bumpa made us waffles on his new waffle iron Christmas present. YUM!
Enjoy the pictures. I love our stuffed animal collection. We have a bunch more not in the chest. I took special pictures of Stitch because he's hard to see but such a cute character. There was no way to put him in a more visible place because of all the other stuffed people who had to be there. Fun, fun, fun!
Diana and Kate cut out snowflakes and made a wonderful snowy mess, but easy to clean up.

Christmas is my very favorite time of the year, full of glowing lights, warmth, love, giving, delicious smells, and even better food! I can hardly ever keep from decorating as soon as possible, and this year was no different. Thanksgiving night the tree went up, and I've been loving it. Every night we are sharing a Christ centered scripture or Christmas story, and we are both excited to start some of our very own 'little family' traditions. So without further ado, here are a few snapshots of our Christmas home and goings on.

OK. My girls all like to watch cooking shows on TV, so when we realized we were NOT going to St. George for Thanksgiving Haley went online and found some new recipes for us to try...Here is our Thanksgiving menu:

Foolproof Turkey Breast by Guy Fieri

I just made a brine with kosher salt, brown sugar,
molasses, fresh sage leaves and peppercorns (lots of water).
It smells divine. Tomorrow we will rub the turkey
with lots of different spices and lemon zest...

Honey Glazed Roasted Vegetables:
the glaze is made of olive oil, honey, fresh thyme sprigs
and sherry vinegar...

Browned Butter and Hazelnut Mashed Potatoes - I also have to make some of Nana's mashed potes for Sophia!

Green Beans sauteed with lemon and garlic

Haley wanted Stuffed Sweet potatoes with Pecan and Marshmellow streusel (a recipe by Tyler Florence) but was ultimately overruled and so we will be going with Allysa's sliced yams with pecans, cranberries, and maple syrup.

I found a Poached Pear, Macadamia, and Spinach Salad with Goat Cheese recipe from Food and Wine Magazine. I have to poach the pears
today in red wine, sugar, lemon peel, anise seeds,
a cinnamon stick and a vanilla bean!

And finally the Stuffing....courtesy of Stove Top mixed with applesauce. It really is Delicious!

For dessert, Haley wanted Pumpkin Bread Pudding with Spicy Caramel Apple Sauce and Vanilla Bean Creme Anglaise ( recipe by Bobby Flay) and Chocolate, Chestnut and Orange Trifle by Giada. We are going with Apple Crisp and Pumpkin Pie!
Oh! The kids are also making a Turkey Gobbler for a centerpiece/appetizer.

Nana and Bumpa have their Christmas tree up. We have ornaments for all the children. Here are a few. . .

Here is the bear that Steven made in sixth grade for his "home ec class. He has been on my tree since Stevens sixth grade!

Remember Joshua Mudgeon? who was supposed to be our second son. But, alas, he never came! So he remains an Angel on our tree every year.

I actually bought this iridescent tree for Morgan this year but even tho I have not conversed with her - I am thinking she wants to be a gorgeous high-heel!

This angel went on the tree when Katy was born.

This next little angel is "Mimi". I hope you all know the story because I am getting very tired.

At last, the jumping frog that represents CMP diving into the pool when she was just 18 mos. I know you think I am exaggerating but NO. She squatted down just like a little frog, then jumped into the pool head first and swam underneath the water!! I wish we had had a video of her doing that!! I know I still have Adam's silver apple, Tim's Tiger, at the top of the tree, Mat's flying donkey that I love for it represents many things to me. Haley's "Bunnies" and Chase's polar bear and Allysa's ballet shoes (she was always going to be a dancer and wear 'piple') and Jenna's little dolly, and Daniel used to be Winnie the Poo but now is the gorgeously attired reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh. Bethany's custom made ornament has been on the tree since she was born and meant everything in the world to me But I have just worn myself out and cannot bear another picture. I love you all.

Cold Sores 411

I went to the Doctor today and had a long conversation with her about cold sores which I found very frustrating and disheartening. So in my need to vent I will share with you all of the information I now know.

1. Cold sores are a virus.

2. Once you get this virus, it NEVER goes away. It stays in your body forever. You can NEVER get rid of it. (It is also a type of Herpes.)

3. The virus will come and go as it pleases. You CANNOT prevent it. THERE IS NO CURE! Which means all those medications and over the counter topical ointments only treat the symptom. They do nothing to limit the cold sore itself.

4. Also the cold sore will run it's course whether or not you use any medication, it matters NOT. Put alot of stuff on your mouth, or don't. The cold sore doesn't care.

5. Outbreaks can occur through stress or low immune system. So stopped getting stressed and don't get sick anymore.

6. You can get rid of your toothbrush after a cold sore, but because the virus remains in your body, it will still come back anyway.

7. There is one medication that "maybe" can help - it is mostly used for shingles. But, again, it only treats the symptom not the cold sore itself. AND it only lessens the length of time by a day or two. Meaning, if your cold sore has a 7 day recovery cycle, this medication might make it 5 or 6 days. What is the point???

I'm not sure I feel better. Still aggravating. I hope you found my info useful. Oh - don't kiss someone with a cold sore because then YOU will have cold sores for life too. Yuck!

For all of you Ken Follett Fans - I slogged through this 985 page book. Now here is my review:

The story would have been fine to good, in a 350 page book. It was like reading a history book! Ok, Ken, I know you researched and you like WW1. I finished the book because I usually really like Ken Follett (Pillars of the Earth; one of my favorites). I thought it would get better. I hated to quit just before it “caught on”. Really, if you like the first 200 pages, then you will like the book. It is a HUGE story of WAY too many characters. The writing is fine, but not luscious. I didn’t slurp up his sentences. I didn’t find myself reading parts allowed to Kerry. I did find myself skipping all the long and boring conversations between people talking about how the war was moving on; and war strategies. That helped me finish the book. There are TWO more books like this coming. What a drag.

And one more fallen Author: Sophi Kinsella.

I have LOVED all of her shopaholic books. I was so excited to read this one.

This one I just could not stomach even though it was the same character. She now has a daughter that is terribly spoiled; a husband that does not seem to connect. He only seems to connect with his business. She seems like an idiot mother, unaware and raising a daughter that will be a menace to society. Then there was the language. I just can’t read that. Can’t even think of parents speaking that way to each other in a most casual way. Really, disgusting. I stopped reading it. I did skip huge hunks to get a gist of the story; that was only ok. It wasn’t even a nice try.

I hope I have saved you all some wasted reading time. Although I wonder if I would have believed it if I had read it on a blog. Give them a try if you want and let me know what you think.

Oh - and Kerry just read the new John Grisham, The Confession. He didn't think that was the greatest either. I am not picking that up either.

I am really enjoying it!

Different sort of book, different perspective. I AM reading parts aloud to Kerry (although I know that is not his favorite thing, sometimes I read something that is SO good, I have to share it).

It is about WWII; Nazis, Jewish, German, orphans, survival. Really, it's good.

Dad always complains about how cold it is in our bedroom. On Saturday, he was upstairs reading. When I walked up to talk to him, this is what I found. At least he looks comfortable.
Who are these cute little long legs?? Why it's our bodelicious little Pipi Longstockings! This is what she chose for the school parade and for Halloween night. Have fun everybody.

a REAL Pain

Zak has a very uncommon disorder:
Benign Exertional Vascular Headache

The Nuerologist said he only sees 2 - 3 cases like this a year; Zak won the lottery on this.

This headache comes on quick and fierce WHENEVER he does anything physical! It just started last Monday. He was running track as usual, and at about the 400 meter mark he got a terrible headache. It was mostly gone (but still feeling some slight effects) by Tuesday, so on Tuesday night he thought he would show the younger scouts how to do pull-ups. By his fourth pull up that headache was back with a vengeance.

We went to the doctor, to the neurologist, to an MRI, it is a definite diagnosis. Thankfully, it is a condition that will go away sometime within one to six months...usually. The doctor gave Zak some medicine to take 30 minutes before he wants to do any physical activity that should stop the headache pain. The pill lasts 4-6 hours and he can only take one a day. The doctor would prefer that he only take the pill 3 days a week, but no more than 5 days a week.

The doctor did appreciate and recognize my exceptional skills at asking questions.
And don't I have children that come down with the most odd medical conditions?

my family didn't celebrate halloween, and where i grew up in south texas, autumn manifests itself in the occasional cool breeze, so it never seemed too big a deal. i'll have christmas decorations to share, though. we'll have our first tim glenn family tree!

A Day off at Disneyland

I realized I had not been to Disneyland since Tanner was 5, so I decided to take my two boys to Disneyland for a fun day off. We had a lovely time. It was sprinkling that day so that crowds weren't so bad.

Chase finally received his quilt. This was a project done in love.

Julie and Nana worked for two days getting the patches sewn up. The binding took a day, as well. The good thing is that it covers the big boy from head to foot. So fun!!

Here is a bit of Fall at home....hope it doesn't make you homesick! It's been raining here for a week

Finally, a pumpkin on the 8 ft. long plant! It will (maybe) be ready by Thanksgiving.

Really, there are 3 pumpkins! And plenty of leaves.

I took the tarp off the pool last week - I was going to dry it out....

It has become a nice tent for the cat.

I kept clicking on the comment link, but I could never get through - SO here are my comments about TV (keep in mind I didn't get to read anyone else's comments) AND my thoughts on the latest "Check-In" blog.

TV - Monday: I am crying because The Closer" is over for the season. My #1 MOST favorite show. I LOVE Kyra Sedgewick. I want to be her...well, I want her hair, her body, her accent - she is terrific.

Hawaii Five-O: I had great expectations. I will keep watching but it was all a little too contrived. I did really like Scott CAAN's character.

Tues: You left out the best shows on TV! NCIS and The Good Wife. These are the shows I will never miss. Great stories, great acting, humorous and very little sex. I REALLY wanted NCIS Los Angeles to do well, but really, the acting is terrible...

Thursday: My 2nd daughter (I am her 2nd mom) and Allysa's soul sister Kristine got me hooked on The Mentalist. Now, I can't stop watching. Simon Baker's character is FANTASTIC and it always is shocking to me to discover an American character being played by an English or Australian actor. When I hear their "real" accent I am dumbfounded they can sound so American! As far as the Defenders go, I didn't like the promo's. But I didn't know that Jerry O'Connell is Rebecca ROMIJN's husband!

Friday: I have been looking forward to seeing Blue Bloods, but instead, I went back to high school! Allysa was a homecoming princess and so she had to be there and everybody else wanted to go too. High school is SOOO time-consuming, I have been SOOO happy to not be involved this year. But, it was such fun to go back just for one night and see everyone again! I get great validation from those kids! So , I missed Blue Bloods. I really really like Tom SELLECK. Do you ever watch the "Jesse Stone" tv movies? I really like those a lot, too.

I gave the RS lesson on Sunday. It was about Elder Ballard's conference talk "Mothers and Daughters" Afterward, an older woman in the ward told me she wanted me to be her mother! Isn't that funny!
Julie, I think you should invent a contact lens that doubles as a camera. That way you could take all the same pictures but you wouldn't have to carry the camera!

I have seen a few VERY enjoyable shows this week!

Here is what I have liked; then you tell us what you like!!

MONDAY: a BIG night!

NBC: The EVENT **this one could be my favorite. It has flavors of Lost. You really should watch the first one, which is on tonight, then watch the new one which is also on tonight. DVR if you need to!

FOX: Lone Star - I really enjoyed this one too! It has con men; families; oil people; rich people regular people. One of the con men is struggling with staying in the "family business" or going straight. He loves his wife and ....his new wife...he can't help it. I am afraid this one might get cancelled; it's what I heard on the radio.

CBS: Hawaii 5-0 - I watched this one later; didn't think I would like it; but it was GREAT! I really enjoyed it. It has Jin from Lost! One of the guys; Dan-o, is James Conn's son. He is a great actor. The other main guy played a vampire in a show I watched last year; he was very good in that. Really this is on the top of my must watch list!

NBC: Chase - I liked this one fine. I do think it could get a little old. FBI, they are looking for the bad guy; they happen to find him before the show ends....

TUESDAY:

NBC: The Biggest Loser...I'm sure it will get better

ABC: Detroit 1-8-7 - I liked this fine; good acting; it has a lot of the flavor of NYPD Blue

WEDNESDAY:

CBS: Survivor - if you missed this, it was excellent!! So good; best "you're off the island" ceremony ever!

CBS: The Defenders: this was fine. Not sure if I will keep watching it. Has Jim Belushi & Rebecca Roman's new husband...what's his name?? They are funny and lawyers all set in Las Vegas. Oh - the husband's name is Jerry O'Connell.

Not sure what day:

Blue Bloods: with Tom Seleck and Mark Walberg. It was fine. Come on, I can't watch everything! Cop show, in New York, or somewhere like that. Is there corruption in the police station? That is what the show is about. Tom Seleck's whole family is with the police department...one daughter is a lawyer.

My favorites so far are The Event & Hawaii 5-0. Lone Star comes in very close. I will definitely be watching or recording those. Well, and of course I won't miss Biggest Loser or Survivor.

Funny story: I sent a text to Bumpa; wondering where they were, how they were doing, feeling. I soon got several nonsense text back! Lately, Bumpa has been GREAT at texting so this (I must say) really alarmed me! I wondered if someone was having a stroke and this was their way to call for help! As I was calling them, I GOT a call from Nana. Although she did not realize she had called me...it was a funny conversation between Nana and Bumpa; I was yelling at my phone to tell Nana I was there; she never heard me. I realized no one was having a stroke; it was just Nana at the controls of the phone. Very funny. Hours later, Bumpa sent me another text:
LOL, I just saw all of Mom's texts to you!

LOL! Bumpa really knows all the texting lingo. Good for you!

Now, a public note to Tatia:

Remember, years ago when we went to the Home Show in Utah? It was a delightful time! Remember I bought a couple of candles...I think I did that 2 times. Well, look what I still have burning in my bathroom:

It was a good buy!
Or maybe I don't use it much...hmm
Or maybe I burn the candle for a few minutes, then blow it out and I have done that 100 times; that's how I use it.

Audition Video

Tanner got a call from a school/church friend who had an audition to be on a new, kid's game show. She needed two more kids to do the audition with her, since you had to be in teams of three. Did Tanner want to do it with her? Sure, I said. Part of the audition process was that you had to submit a video of your team, tell who you are, how you know each other, and why you think you will win. This is what they came up with for their video. It is 2 parts, both short. Watch the ice cream part last.

Something must have happened with blogspot and adding pictures!!

I have been the queen of this!!

I just made a lovely post over at the books blog.
The best part of a blog are the pictures. So, I was set to add a picture for every book I reported on. I worked on the pictures for about 30 - 45 minutes. NOT ONE picture worked!!

WHY??

I go to google, image, choose my book, like Heart of the Matter. The book comes up. I copied the URL to the special place in the "add a picture". I click the button to add. It DOES NOT WORK. I don't know why. Anyone else have this problem? Is/are they being really tight about copyright rules??

As you can see, I can add my own photographs. No Problem.

I tried to even add clip art pictures, which I have done ONE MILLION times! That didn't work either.

Can anyone solve my problem? I will love you forever.

**I picked this photo for gross & shock value. Trying to get your attention. While driving from Utah to California, I heard a loud noise on my driver's side window. It sounded like a little humming bird hit the window and then disintegrated. It WAS very gross. We took many pictures of it.

Here she is at 12. Haley has always been a beautiful girl. We are very proud of her. She wanted to go to Rodizio Grill. I chose not to have any meat. But all the kids thought it was so cool to get all those different kinds of meat. Everybody had a wonderful time. Haley looked so beautiful. I wanted to hit myself for not having my camera. Allysa made her the Angel food cake for her birthday. We all went back to her house to have a piece and meet her boyfriend. He's a very cute guy - Just got home from Indiana where he missioned. He is now a diver at that mexican place down on 106th. They ran off to their FHE. We all had a good time. I have to quit now, because my computer has changed (I think because of this awful Chrome Google thing and it doesn't let me do it properly. (Bad Excuse) But, Happy Birthday, Haley!!
