I taught Pre-school today.
We had a Science Day, it was fun.
One of the things we did was make our own Lava Lamp!
Fill a jar 3/4 full of vegetable oil.
Fill the rest with water.
Pick some food coloring, put a few drops in.
Shake it up.
When oil and water separate, drop in an Alka Seltzer!
Don't put the lid back on until a long time after the Alka Seltzer is done, as you will make a small bomb.
Very entertaining.
We also made Carbon Dioxide gas blow up a balloon.

Here's another experiment: drop a mentos into a bottle of coke, and step back. A fountain of soda may very well hit the ceiling.

The places you go, the things you do ... for 4 yr.olds. You are incredible. No wonder the kid is so smart!
We dropped about 10 mentos in a coke liter bottle all at the same time. It made a HUGE mess - emptying all the contents of the bottle out onto the driveway. But it was FUN!
I've never tried it, but I thought the mentos thing only worked with diet coke.
