My First Week

I'm glad I have a job, but it's been very demanding. We moved all our stuff into the apartment on Thursday night, I got a job on Friday morning, and starting teaching on Monday. So, I haven't been able to unpack one box. I'm still pulling clothes out of my suitcase. At the end of the day, I want to come home and unpack, but I am so tired I just go to sleep. Tanner is still staying at Billy's since his room is filled with boxes.

Gil and I went to Tanner's first football game on Saturday. They run through banners and have cheerleaders. Tanner was upset because they lost. Only by two. I've backed off of football and let Billy do it - too hard for me to watch.

I have 20 students in my class, most of them Armenian. I've already had two conferences this week before school (parent request). Back to School night is next week. All I can say is, I better have my ducks in a room for this group. Teaching 2nd grade in Utah and teaching 2nd grade in California is very different. Much more demanding here.

I'm now grading spelling tests and then I'm going to bed. Gil makes sure I have a lunch in the morning for school. He cuts me strawberries and puts them in a tupperware. He's been wonderful.

Thanks, Candice - Great update. If I lived closer, I would grade your papers for you. I love a red marker.

Candice, you didn't say WHERE you are working! I'm guessing Glendale. And how did you find the job?

I'm working in Burbank district. I got a call from a principal who needed an extra teacher. She remembered me from an earlier interview I did in May for a music specialist. I didn't get that job. Amazingly, she is the same principal where Tanner is going to school! So now we can go to school together again. I like seeing him there.
